Shaan is the actual name of Indipop genre. Playback singer Shantanu Mukherjee, popularly known as Shaan has an elongated list of hit numbers associated to his name. Starting his career with ad jingles, Shaan continued with remixes and cover versions. His first break through came from 'Naujwan' which was an album in collaboration with sister Sagarika. From that point, there was no looking back in Shaan's career and he went on to sky heights with his melodies.

In the 1989 movie Parinda, when he was only 17 years of age, Shaan sang a single line in the song, "Kitni Hai Pyari Pyari Dosti Hamari". Shaan has sung playback vocals for several hit Bollywood films including Fanaa, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna, Masti (2004 film), Om Shanti Om, Partner, Welcome , Saawariya, Jab We Met, 3 Idiots, Taare Zameen Par etc.
Shaan has been a perfect showcase of versatility. His works belong to every possible genre. His blockbuster like "Nikamma" and on the other hand soulful rag-darbari based "Paigham laya saawan" show the extremeties of his vocal chords. Other songs like "Tanha dil", a pop superhit and "One Love" which belongs to hip-hop genre along with "Bhool Ja" is an excellent rock Ballad.
