Daryl Joseph Mitchell is a New Zealand cricketer who plays all formats of the game for the New Zealand national team and represents Canterbury in domestic cricket. He is the son of New Zealand rugby union coach and former player John Mitchell.
Mitchell was born on 20 May 1991 in Hamilton, New Zealand. He is the eldest of three children. His father, John Mitchell, is a former New Zealand rugby union player and coach who has coached several international teams, including England. His mother, Robyn Mitchell, is a former teacher.
Mitchell attended St Peter's College in Hamilton, where he played both rugby union and cricket. He was selected for the New Zealand Schools cricket team in 2008 and 2009.
Mitchell is married to his wife, Stephanie, and they have a daughter together. He is a keen golfer and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
Mitchell made his first-class debut for Canterbury in 2011 at the age of 19. He scored his maiden first-class century in 2014 and quickly established himself as one of the leading batsmen in New Zealand domestic cricket.
Mitchell made his international debut for New Zealand in a Twenty20 International (T20I) against India in February 2019. He made his Test debut against England in November 2019 and his One Day International (ODI) debut in March 2021.
Mitchell has played 44 ODIs for New Zealand, scoring 1,284 runs at an average of 38.38 and a strike rate of 125.29. He has scored three centuries and four half-centuries.
