Mohammed Shami Ahmed is an Indian international cricketer who plays for the Indian national cricket team in all formats of the game as a right-arm fast bowler. He plays domestically for Bengal and, in the Indian Premier League, for Gujarat Titans.
Shami was born on 3 September 1990 in Amroha, Uttar Pradesh, India. He is the youngest of four sons of Tousif Ali and Anjum Ara. His father was a farmer and his mother was a housewife.
Shami started playing cricket at a young age. He was initially a batsman, but he switched to bowling after he was inspired by the Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan. Shami made his first-class debut for Bengal in the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy season. He quickly impressed with his pace and swing, and he was soon called up to the Indian national team.
Shami made his international debut in an ODI against Pakistan in January 2013. He bowled a brilliant spell of 9-4-23-1 in his debut match, and he was immediately hailed as one of the most promising young fast bowlers in the world.
Shami has had a very successful ODI career. He has played 94 ODIs for India and has taken 171 wickets at an average of 25.50. He is the fastest Indian bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets (in 56 matches). Shami has also taken a hat-trick in an ODI, against Afghanistan in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
Shami has also had a successful T20I career. He has played 23 T20Is for India and has taken 44 wickets at an average of 23.68. Shami is a very versatile bowler, and he can bowl both in the powerplay and at the death. He is also a very good fielder.
Shami has had a very successful Test career. He has played 64 Tests for India and has taken 229 wickets at an average of 27.71. Shami is the third fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 Test wickets (in 49 matches). Shami is a very dangerous bowler in Test cricket, and he can take wickets on any pitch.
Shami has captained India in one T20I match, against Afghanistan in the 2019 Cricket World Cup.
In 2018, Shami's wife, Hasin Jahan, accused him of domestic violence and extramarital affairs. Shami denied the allegations and the case is still ongoing.
Shami is married to Hasin Jahan and they have a daughter together. Shami is a very religious person and he is often seen praying on the field. He is also a very down-to-earth person and he is very popular with his teammates and fans.
