Adil Rashid MBE (born 17 February 1988), popularly known as Dil Rashid, is an English cricketer who plays for England in One Day International and Twenty20 International cricket, and previously played for the Test team. In domestic cricket, he represents Yorkshire, and has played in multiple Twenty20 leagues, including the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Rashid was born in Bradford, West Yorkshire, England, to Pakistani parents. He started playing cricket at a young age, and was quickly identified as a talented leg spinner. He attended St. Bede's Grammar School in Bradford, where he played cricket for the school team.
Rashid made his debut for Yorkshire in 2006, at the age of 18. He quickly established himself as a regular member of the team, and took over 100 wickets in each of his first two seasons. In 2010/11, he was loaned to South Australia, where he played in the Sheffield Shield and the Ryobi One-Day Cup.
Rashid made his international debut for England in the T20I series against the Netherlands in 2009. He made his ODI debut later that year, against Ireland. He made his Test debut in 2015, against Pakistan.
Rashid is one of the most successful ODI bowlers of all time. He has taken 120 wickets in 126 ODIs, at an average of 27.25. He is the leading wicket-taker for England in ODIs, and is also the fastest England bowler to reach 100 ODI wickets.
Rashid is also one of the most successful T20I bowlers of all time. He has taken 95 wickets in 99 T20Is, at an average of 22.48. He is the leading wicket-taker for England in T20Is.
Rashid played 19 Test matches for England, taking 34 wickets at an average of 38.02. He retired from Test cricket in 2019, in order to focus on ODI and T20I cricket.
Rashid has never captained England in any format.
Rashid is married to Fatima Rashid, and they have two children together.
